The Quiet Compere as a concept:
The Quiet Compere concept is that I give ten high quality poets, both established and newer to the scene, a performance platform in venues suitable for purpose and organise events and promotion of these events with skill and flair. Introductions of the poets are merely by a name and not a long biog or list of publications. This means that the newer poets to the scene are not shown up as “oh and this is just ….” after the person before has a list of accolades. The audience has the chance to see ten poets at one event with a visible, but subtle, compere. My events have been said to have a “rare and lovely gentleness” (John Darwin). As a compere the organisational side is paramount to me and I do not see the stages of the events as mine to own, but as mine to fill with talented and surprising poets
